Are you an inspiration junkie?
Are you tired of the excessive inspirational posts from your Facebook and Instagram friends?
I'll be honest I blast the inspirational posts myself, guilty... Although there very well could be an overload of people firing off inspiration on a daily basis, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.
People want to be inspired, better yet, we need to be inspired.
We need motivation and inspiration amidst this overly negative world. Could it be that we lean towards inspirational words because we long for a drink of fresh water instead of the murky polluted water that the media and world blast day and night? Here is the bottom line, negativity and fear are draining, not inspiring and motivating.
The Harvard Business Review wrote a study on the effects of creativity and inspiration, "Why Inspiration Matters." The findings were interesting. The writer, Scott Barry Kaufman, writes, "Inspiration propels a person from apathy to possibility, and transforms the way we perceive our own capabilities."
Why is it some of us tear up after we hear or see a heart moving true story of someone who overcame outrageous odds in life?
I know why I do, because I dare to draw courage and inspiration from witnessing someone achieve the impossible. I finish the movie or book thinking to myself, "If they can do it, so can I." When I see or hear a story of someone conquering the impossible it activates a measure of courage in me, and I don't know about you but I need a greater activation of courage within.
"Inspiration is the springboard to creativity," Kaufman explains. I chuckle when the occasional client tells me, "I'm just not creative." Yes you are! Creativity is simply daring to see things different and act upon what your seeing. Most of us just need to learn to draw inspiration from other people, instead of comparing ourselves to them.
Inspiration is the spark to that fire of creativity and passion within you. The courage to release your fire to the world around is your personal journey of overcoming the lie that your voice doesn't matter.
